Last rehearsal before this week's performances in Sadler's Wells

It was very nice to see everyone again. Things sounded good in the last session before we move into the theatre for another week of the Choreographer’s Cut of Political Mother.

What a great weekend

Posted: December 18, 2012 in Uncategorized

Recording Studio. 3 days. No plan at all about what we were going to do. Pure joy and so much fun. And now:

Task 1 – listen to all the material and select the good stuff / Task 2 – Overdubs / Task 3 – mix

All in all – great feeling of freedom and joy.

With Vincenzo Lamagna on guitars, Domenico Angarano on bass and Moshik Kop behind the desk.

Good bye Steve

A humble person, with no ego, super funny, loud, musical and supportive – That’s what Steve Prosser was.

I had the massive pleasure to study with him and to meet him many times as a friend.  He is definitely one of the biggest inspirations that I got from Berklee and I have no doubt that I am not alone when I say that.

Steve – Thanks a lot for everything. I am sure that you are in good hands now. Big love.

Finally the studio is up and running and I am happy to share the first video from there. This video gives a clearer demonstration (hopefully…) to the Paracircle exercise that was published a while ago on the exercises page. This exercise explores the Paraddidle  in 7 different shapes.

On the 24th of June I will be doing a masterclass for tap dancers in Pulse Dance Studio in London.

In this unique course, tap dancers are invited to concentrate on their musicality, rhythm control and improvisation. We will focus on the importance of the beat, which is the heart and starting point of all rhythms, whilst exploring many rhythmic possibilities. We will also focus on developing tools that can be used when improvising such as dynamics, sound and intensity. The whole process will be concentrated into three intensive hours in which we will attempt to discover the individual sound and expression of each person.

I am proud to share the front page of Cympad with Ian Froman, a great teacher and definitely someone who has made a massive difference on the way I play drums.

Thank you Ian and thank you Cympad!

Recordings

It has been a long time (way too long!) since the last studio work I did and it was really great to be back again. After so many years of doing live work it was a lots of fun and a big challenge to go back to the sterilized atmosphere of the recording studio. Wow, things are different there!

I enjoyed spending a few long days in the at Big Blue Music studios for the recordings with Kindle Trails. Steve, the producer from the studio was great and it felt very natural and relaxed to work with him. We still have one vocal track to record and 2.5 more mixes to finish. It has been a lot of work and I hope to get the final EP ready and mastered before going back on tour again. Good job Keith!

In addition I had a fun experience at Moshik Kop´s Studio with Vincenzo Lamagna recording some tracks for Laura Bazells EP. Interesting stuff. Theatrical music. I am sure the final work would be interesting to listen to.
